Second book by Michelle Obama is titled "a toolkit to stay centred

According to her publisher, the former first lady's next book will provide readers with "fresh anecdotes and profound musings on change, struggle, and power."

After her critically acclaimed memoir Becoming, which was released in November 2018, Obama will release her second book, The Light We Carry, in November.

She shared a video on social media today announcing the publication of her new book, stating that "a lot has happened" since she released “Becoming”, including "An uprising" and a "Rising tide of hate, bigotry, and intolerance."

She claimed that as a result, she felt "out of balance," "vulnerable, and yes, occasionally, terrified." She consequently "did a lot of contemplating" on issues like how to "channel our annoyance into something constructive."

Obama defined The Light We Carry as "kind of a toolbox" and "a collection of some of the thoughts and practises I've learned over the years to help keep me centred" as the outcome.

The book outlines Obama's "most valuable practises, like starting kind', 'going high', and creating a "kitchen table" of trusted friends and mentors," according to Penguin Random House.

Obama states in the book's introduction: "I've learned it's okay to recognise that self-worth comes wrapped in vulnerability, and that what we share as humans on this globe is the drive to strive for better, constantly and regardless of what.

"Our boldness and brilliance increase. Knowing your light means understanding who you are. In an honest sense, you are aware of your own story. In my opinion, the ability to connect meaningfully with others is the foundation of everything. This type of self-knowledge, in my experience, creates confidence, which in turn breeds calmness and the capacity to retain perspective. Lighting feeds lighting. More families gain strength from one strong family. One active community can inspire those nearby. This is the strength of the light that we bear.

On November 15, the book will be made available worldwide, four years after Becoming publication.

From her early years in Chicago's South Side through her experiences as the country's first Black first lady, Becoming followed Obama's life. According to the publisher, it has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide across all platforms and has been translated into 50 different languages.
